This blog is dedicated to introducing you to the wealth of fantastic photographs. Every photograph tells a story. Photographs are a powerful resource in geography-they create a sense of place, make us think about people in a new and perhaps challenging way, or perhaps show a familiar landscape in an UNFAMILIAR way. How did the snow change OUR landscpae on Thursday, for example?
When looking at photographs of places ask yourself the 5Ws
Where is this place?
What is it like?
What would it be like to live here?
Why is it the way it is? (difficult one!!)
What makes it similar to and different from "my place"
The Guardian newspaper has an unrivalled website-click here to get images from the last 24 hours-choose ONE and write about it, using the 5Ws.
National Geographic has a vast portfolio of photographs covering every place on the Earth. Click here to access their gallery. Share with your partner your favourite picture. Use an Google Earth or an atlas to find out where it was taken.
Look at the last blog entry and log on to the "panoramas" website-if you are into digital technology, use it to navigate to links to find out HOW to take 360 degree photos.

rio de janeiro is on the east coast of brazil
it is hot and sunny and has beutiful view from the ridge
fun and cool
a lot of people worked hard on it
it is cold were i live and it is warm there. they have sandy beaches with bars along the prominated which we do not.
We choose a picture of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It show the new year celebrations on Copacabana Beach. We totland.hink that it would be exciting to live there because it looks vwould be a very festive. I think it is like this because there are so many people who live in Rio and like to celebrate the coming of the new year. It is very similar because the new year is just as important there as it is here in Scotland. The difference is that on Scotland there isn't as many people.
Wimereux France
The picture is taken during a storm the waves have crashed right onto the houses.
Would love to live in France but during the storm would be frightening.
The picture is like this due to the Storm.
The place we chose was Hong Kong. It is a very busy place with many many people. it might not be particularly nice to live there seeing as it is very crowded. The reason it is so busy is that after the war, companies could operate there cheaply, and it is on the coast, so it is a good trading post. It is different to Scotland in that it has a much higher population and is probably very noisy.
