Shopping Survey-A way of gathering data

2A took part in a shopping survey in Kilmacolm on Wednesday morning -each group made up some questions to find out more about the shopping habits of local people. they then trialled their questions with a sample of shoppers. It was a cold, sunny and dry day, but there were few people out and about at 9.45!
On Friday we shall look at the types of questions we used , and work together to produce an agreed format. Some of the class have already posted comments-well done! Everyone should have posted their comments by Friday 0900!

In your comments-let me know what questions to ask? What kind of question to ask? (eg open? closed? multiple choice?)

We shall be looking at how to use online survey tools, such as SurveyMonkey-have a look at this site and imagine how you might use it!

Dundee Quiz -Fun!

There are 5 questions on Dundee (where the teachers' conference was) on Saturday's posting:-e-mail me the answers!!

Open Evening-Wednesday 8th November

Thanks to those pupils who offered to help-remember to bring in your consent form on Friday.

The survey was a sucess but as Kilmacolm is a small village many people were asked twice. One of the other problems was that there were not enougth people to create an average result on so the results may not be as accurate as if many people were asked.

In total we only managed to talk 2 3 ppl so we did not have a large variety of results 2 take an averrage from. I suggest we do the survey again at a busier time of day to get a good idea of what most people will say.

we managed to interview three people so there wasnt a big assortmant of answers but most of them had same replies to the questions. That gave us a rough idea of the average result. Altough if we interviewed more people then it would be more successful as our survey is quite vague.

There were not a great deal of people in the village at that time but we got 2 results we weren't able 2 take an average either maybe s bit later in the day we would have been more sucessful

We found that shopkeepers thought that around 50% of their customers came to their shops in cars and 50% came by foot. Thy also told us that most of their business was local.

In our survey, the people we asked prefered to get local produce and liked not to travel far to do their shopping. Most of them didn't use online shopping, and all of them didn't want go futher than 10 miles to do their shopping.

when we did our survey we found that most people diden't shop on-line. no one we asked wanted to travel more than 10 miles to do their shopping they also prefered local produce to big brands or processed food.

In cunclusion to the shopping survey, we found that the majority of people used a variety of large supermarkets out of the village and small shops in the village. One person out of the four we interveiwed, shopped online and all 4 people were prepared to travel up to 8 miles to go shopping.

The majority of people we interviewed lived in Kilmacolm and shopped there at least five times a week. These people were mostly elderly but some were middle aged. All the people we interviewed preferred to shop in local shops and not on the internet but we concluded this was because this was because they were elderly so so did not have modern computers to go on the internet with.

in total we interviewed three people and they rated the village with reasonable numbers on a scale of 1 to 5. none of them gave negative respones. two applicants said that they never shop online. that must be because they are locals and usually walk to the village. all of them chose the butchers and the co-op as the shop that they shop in most.

The majority of people we interviewed gave mostly the same answers. It wasn't a fair experiment as we only interviewed two people. I would suggest doing it again in a busier area so that we could at least get an average.

The Shopping survey was sucessful but there was alot of people that didnt answer or strayed from the question , some people had never been into some of the shops we had asked about. Some people didnt even want to be asked and walked away from us when we introduced ourselves.

Rachael and i interviewed five people in the village outside the newsagents sucessfully, however this wasn't enough people to create an average of the survey
